TMC: Introduce Yourself.
RS: What's good TMC! Its ya Rebel, Reb Skylarker; Rebel if you're a G, the Rebel MC! And you're now rocking with the CMExDPG Rebel Crew on The MC Magazine!

TMC: What made you pursue music?
RS: The love for the art. The art of Hip Hop. I pursued music because of the culture. Plain and simple.

TMC: What sets you apart from other artists?
RS: My grind! haha. My grind separates me from other artists simply because the job is never done. There is always something more you can do no matter what you're doing. I made this music my business and so I go full throttle until I feel that I have accomplished my desired goal. Sometimes the goal is never accomplished because there is always more you can do! Grind harder to shine the brightest! Rising Star.

TMC: Tell us something people may not know about you?
RS: Well, I discovered the name Reb Skylarker in 2011 while writing my debut project, "I Think I'm Signed" which has over 86,000 plays on Mixconnect! The name just fell out of the sky for me honestly. I always had the Rebel part. Reb been my name since the age of 12; but the Skylarker just came down from Heaven, word Up! But for those who don't know a Skylarker is a bird (Skylark), known for its melodic notes while hovering at a great height! I even had to look up the word myself to see if it was a real word, haha.. But I give all credit to God. Music is my destiny! I was created to spread Peace & Skyscrapers to the world.. They call me Reb Skylarker!

TMC: What projects do you have planned for the near future?
RS: I'm working on  R.E.B.E.L.S World. Looking forward to that being a Summer release. I'm working on my next Walking Prodigies album, "Walking Prodigies II: The Duet." Don't want to release too much information about the album but just know that its going to be a real game changer! We're working towards that GLOW Tour to kick off this Summer too. Oh yeah, "G.L.O.W: The Documentary" will be dropping soon! We have so much in the works right now, its just a matter of staying focused and committed and achieving those goals. For more information from any upcoming projects from Reb Skylarker & The Rebel Crew, just FOLLOW me on Twitter!

Thank you so much for this opportunity to be in your magazine! Really appreciate the love & support!

Meet Upcoming Hip-Hop Artist:
 Leek

Biography Excerpts:

"Malik Parker- Hill aka Leek, was born December 8, 1986 in a Northside neighborhood of Philadelphia PA. He grew up in a single parent home in the inner city, one of 9 siblings. As the one of the younger children, Leek looked up to his older brothers who were into hip hop and rap in the early 90's. Some of his early influences were LL Cool J, Rakim, Run DMC, The Wu-Tang Clan, Rob Base and Kid n Play.
Leek and YNR have Opened for artist like Bay area Legend Yuk Mouth and Savage, and has featured on coast2coastmixtapes Vol. 90 along with artists T.I and J.Cole. Recently Leek has been working on a solo project with Indie Labels Concrete Office and Unkockable Ent. He can also be found hosting a local television program based in Salem Oregon called 'In The 503.'"

Our exclusive interview with Leek:

MP: Leek, please introduce yourself as an artist to the audience here at The MC Magazine and abroad.
L: What up yaw? My name is Leek aka "Charlie French." I bet your wondering where the Charlie French came from…  It’s actually my alter ego, the smoother side of Leek. My team is Cypher Music Group and Concrete Office back on the East Coast (what up Henny!) My manager’s name is Bernard Powell, or “Pro” as I call him.

MP: When did you know that music was something that you wanted to make more than a hobby?
L: When I realized I can really move the crowd. I performed live with Marques Houston at the Barracuda. There were about 1,500 people there, and the crowd’s reaction to our performance really hit me and changed my outlook on music and making it a career. I began to realize that I can take it all the way so I started taking my music seriously and began treating it like a business, and started to create my image and brand.

MP:  The Music industry is very competitive, what separates you from your competitors?
L: The music industry IS very competitive! I think what separates me from others on the local scene is that I really take what I do seriously, and I love just being myself. The music I make is me.

MP: What is your favorite part of doing music?
L: My favorite part of doing music…  I’d have to say my favorite part of creating music would have to be the connections I make with the fans and seeing people vibe and relate to my music; whether I’m performing, or driving around with my boys and seeing them Maxxin out to my songs.

MP: Have you worked with any prestigious names so far? If so, who?
L: I sure have! I've worked with and opened up for numerous artist; Bone Thugs ‘N’ Harmony, Plies, Lloyd, Kirko Bangz, Kid Ink, The New Boys, Yg, Nipsey Hussle, Too Short, Yuk Mouth and Savage all in this past year.

MP: What is your greatest accomplishment so far that you're most proud of?
L: Well, definitely one of my greatest accomplishments would have to be opening up for Bone Thugs ‘N’ Harmony at the Roseland Theater in Portland. The show was sold out. The hypest crowd I’ve seen so far!  After the show I had the opportunity to kick it with the guys and they’re legends in the game. That was definitely something special to me, like a personal milestone. And being in the green room and having people come down for the meet and greet with Bone Thugs and hearing them ask "Where's Leek at? I want to get a picture with him and an autograph!" That really humbled me.  I’m thankful and grateful for everything that comes my way and this would have to be one of the greatest accomplishments of my life.

MP: Anything new/exciting coming in 2013 that The MC Magazine can get an exclusive sneak about?L: I got a lot of exciting things to come in 2013. There’s an independent film I'm co-starring in, I’m also dropping my first official album "A Day In The Life Of Charlie French" this year, and videos for at least 4 of the tracks on the project.  My management is working on booking a city to city tour all around the NW, down into Cali and across to Vegas and Arizona. I’m also working with a couple of Investors who are interested in developing a clothing line based on some original ideas that I have. I can’t give you the name yet... But we are already working on designs.

MP: Where can people find your music?

L: On my reverbnation page, my fan page on Facebook, Datpiff.com, HotNewHipHop.com, Just type "Leek Da Barber" into Google and all pops up. I’m featured on like coast2coastmixtapes Vol. 91 on a song called ‘Fli Boi’ Ft. Francheyez. You can search "Black and White Rose Vol. 1" on Datpiff to download my collab mixtape with Rose City Gang. I’ve also got lots of stuff on YouTube.

Kyle Young (Pirate)
Location: Springfield, MA / Hartford, CT
Genre/s: Pirate Rap / Hip Hop / Gutter Pop
Label/Unsigned: Young! Records / Young! Studios

Twitter
Youtube
Facebook
Instagram

TMC: Introduce yourself.
KY: Kyle Young (me) is not your typical rapper. I started off in 2004 making my own beats and doing my own artwork as well as music videos. I created the style that many rappers use today as far as promotion. I am an all around artist, so there will never be a day when I "throw in the towel". My dad often uses the quote "to create is to live" and that is my main philosophy in life. In my music you will hear every emotion I go through, whether it's pain, joy, confusion, inebriation, or anger, its all authentic and I take high pride in that. I do not follow the mainstream route, and people love my indie spirit. My genre is pirate hip hop, infused with catchy pop hooks. I am a star.

TMC: What made you pursue music?
KY: Life made me pursue music. My pain and struggles drives it. My homie Scatterboxx introduced me to creating my own music in high school. I found i was good at it, and i could combine my other arts, visual and digital into it.

TMC: What sets you apart from other artists?     KY: The biggest thing is my film degree. I rarely release songs as audio. Most of the time I release it as a video. I am able to start with a song idea, create the beat, engineer my vocals, master the song, write a video treatment, shoot it, edit it, distribute and market/promo it. I am a one man army, and I am a beast.

As far as music and message, I feel my voice is unique, my vocals range from deep raspy, to higher pitched melodic. My beats are dope. They range from old school sample based, to new age trap, and sometimes the combination of the 2. My message is always simple, but real. I have a very hard time fabricating songs. 99% of the time my lyrics are based off of something that Kyle Young has experience. I'm a gemini/personality disorder/ stoner/drug lover/south paw/hopeless romantic/hip hop nerd so my songs and music vary immensely, even when on the same compilation. You could say I'm tightly all over the place.

TMC: What's something people may not know about you?     KY: My favorite food is french toast, and my favorite song is "For the Longest Time" by Billy Joel.

TMC: What projects do you have planned for the near future?

KY: International tour, huge artist collabs Feature films (Diamond Ruff) , A new album, more short films, a million music videos, reality show, a hip hop musical, clothing line creating a whole new art form/element of hip hop

TMC: What's your claim to fame?KY: Getting my music video for my song "are you sleeping" ft. Star Trak Natasha Ramos, placed in Macy's department store on the TV screens

Also getting to work with legendary producer, Easy Mo Bee.

"GOLD"

TMC: For those who don't know you can you introduce yourself?
RD: whats good im ron dash born in Baltimore city currently living in Philly. I am a recording artist and have been making music for about a year.

TMC: What sets you apart from other artists?
RD: outside of the actual music that i make with my camp at 5th quarter productions shout out danny newport and kapano, i wouldn't say that i am really different from any artist i pull a lot of my ideas and lyrics from life and past influences. I think music and art are at very transitional point right now with so many people having access to so much and i think its a beautiful thing. So i am just riding the waves like everyone else.

TMC: What's your favorite thing about being an artist?
RD: my favorite thing would have to be the level of freedom that i have to be able to create and show the world what i see and getting the feedback back whether it be negative or positive. A lot of people don't have that opportunity and have to live vicariously through others works and words.

TMC: Tell us something people may not know about Ron Dash?
RD: a lot of people who know me from music don't always know about my love of photography. I have a lot of works displayed nationwide and present at galleries and shows as well. You can check out my work at samuelsrepublic.com

RD: future plans are to just keep creating and making music with the people around me and i look forward to working with other well known artist and bettering my craft.

Special thanks to TMC for taking the time out to feature me!
